Aug 14 [1915] this evening my wife, little daughter and I took a train for Cardston to attend the Sunday sessions of the Quarterly Conference of the Alberta Stake. We met many friends and had a good time. Returned to Raymond Mon. morning.
Tues. Aug. 17, 1915
Upon boarding the train this morning at Magrath for the purpose of coming to Lethbridge I met Patriarch Manly Brown of Cardston. We had a pleasant and, to me, a very instructive hour together. Bro. Brown has met with many financial reverses in the past 20 years and is now broken in health and almost penniless. In spite of these things he is optimistic regarding his future welfare and considers the loss of his property a blessing in disguise. In recent years he has been very active in helping men to overcome evil habits and in giving blessings to the people. He is certainly in possession of Heavenly riches which he dispenses daily to his fellows and in so doing enriches their lives and increases his own store.
Sept 5 1915 Sun. My wife is over to Lethbridge to spend Sunday with me. We attended S.S. at 10:30 A.M. Had a splendid session. We were invited to take dinner with Bro & Sr. D.H. Elton. Sr. Fanny Gordon of Edmonton was also at Elton's to dinner. Sr. Gordon has been boosting wonderfully for Chiropractic both in Lethbridge and in Raymond where she has been visiting with her sister. We greatly appreciate this as we meet with considerable prejudice against our work.
In the Sacrament meeting in the afternoon testimony bearing occupied the time and most every one present spoke. Sr. D.H. Elton spoke in tongues and the interpretation was given by Sr. Fanny Gordon who bore a strong testimony at the same time. No one seemed to know in what language the "tongue" was spoken but the words were clear and distinct and uttered in a very spiritual manner. They were accompanied by striking gestures which were almost exactly duplicated by the sister in giving the interpretation. In effect, the interpretation was this: The Saints must be united and faithful and support the brethren in authority and all opposition would be overcome. That Zion would come from both the North and the South and trample her enemies under her feet. The exhortation to follow and support our leaders was repeated.
There was such a thrill went through everyone present that everyone felt the power which accompanied the tongues. It was such a remarkable manifestation that no person can every forget it.
Bro. David H. Elton spoke afterward and stated that this was the first special manifestation that occurred among our people here in Lethbridge and he prophesied in the name of Israel's God that this was the beginning of such things and that the work of the Lord would grow in this city until thousands would be connected with the work.
All in all this was a remarkable meeting and I do not think I have ever attended another where I felt the Spirit of the Lord so strongly as I did upon this occasion.
